Žarko Andričević
A brief introduction
Born in 1955 in Croatia, Zarko became interested in Asian philosophy when he was a young gymnastic student.
In 1975, he came across Buddhism while searching for the spiritual roots of martial arts and yoga. Two years later, he received formal Buddhist refuges and precepts.
In the mid-80's he started Dharmaloka, the first Buddhist community in Croatia, dedicated to mediation and study of Buddhism.
In 1996, he attended a seven-day retreat led by the late Chan Master Sheng Yen, during the retreat he realized that Chan is the very core of Buddha Dharma, and Master Sheng Yen as the Master whose teaching stems directly from the meditative experience. Zarko attended many of Master Sheng Yen’s retreats and dedicated himself to Chan meditation.
In June 2001, during a two-week retreat in the USA, Zarko received Dharma transmission from Master Sheng Yen, and became one of the Master’s five Dharma heirs in the West.
Zarko is now an established Chan Master, he not only teaches in his home country Croatia, he also travels frequently around the globe such as the USA, Switzerland, Slovenia, Norway, Germany and Taiwan. In April 2015 Zarko came to Melbourne, Australia for the first time to spread the Dharma.
